Ecellix’s eCell: EV’s next Rich Strike?

On Saturday, 80-1 long shot Rich Strike flew past favorites Epicenter and Zandon to claim the roses at the 148th Kentucky Derby. Purchased a year ago for only thirty-thousand dollars, an unknown jockey rode this undervalued thoroughbred in the upset of the century. Since then, everything the horse racing industry thought was true about bloodlines, training, and valuation has been turned on its ear.

Could Ecellix be the Rich Strike of the EV battery industry? For nearly 20 years, the marketplace has placed a premium on exotic materials, multi-hundred patent portfolios, and high-profile financial backers to handicap the race whose finish line is a higher capacity battery based on a silicon-dominant anode material. All industry attention has been on these front-runners through the first three turns of the race. As the EV race for battery innovations turns for the finish line, Ecellix’s eCell is emerging, a silicon-dominant anode material as energetic as the industry leaders. But unlike its exotic cousins, Ecellix uses a simple, highly-scalable process to transform inexpensive commodity materials into its eCell, at a unit cost that is a mere fraction of its exotic cousins. At 80-1, Rich Strike was the bargain of the century, and investors still think that Ecellix may be undervalued.
